The temporary closure of Museums Victoria’s venues—Melbourne Museum, Scienceworks, the Immigration Museum, IMAX Melbourne and the Royal Exhibition Building—will continue until 30 June 2020.
Through this extended closure, Museums Victoria continues to play its part in helping to slow the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Victoria and keeping the community safe.

Why is Melbourne Museum/Scienceworks/Immigration Museum/Royal Exhibition Building/IMAX closed to the public?
We are taking these steps as a public health precaution in support of measures to contain COVID-19, especially for those in our community who are most vulnerable.
We are committed to providing support for all of our employees and volunteers and to protecting our community during these unprecedented and challenging times.
The Melbourne Museum car park remains open as usual at this time.

Have all Visitor Engagement Officers on the floor been tested for Coronavirus?
Any staff displaying symptoms or feeling unwell have been directed to stay home from work and to refer to the Department of Health And Human Services Coronavirus Self-Assessment tool.
What will happen to the education and regional outreach program?
All public programs have been cancelled until further notice, including education and regional outreach programs. Due to the rapidly changing nature of the situation, we will continue to monitor advice and adapt accordingly.
Do you have a virtual museum tour/ online collection?
Museums Victoria is finding new ways to share our collections and research and to bring our museum experts to the people, wherever they may be.

Are events and exhibitions going ahead?

Are your staff still at work during this public shutdown?
MV has moved all staff to working from home apart from staff involved in essential services.
