Ports Survey Integration Project updates

At present, the principal AMIT project is the Ports Survey Integration Project. This project, funded by the Department of Environment and Heritage through the Natural Heritage Trust, aims to integrate into museum collections and databases those specimens resulting from port surveys for introduced marine organisms. The following outcomes comprise a brief history and progress report on this project:
  • September 2003 - meeting of the Council of Heads of Australian Faunal Collections (CHAFC) approves the initiative of AMIT to seek financial support for the Ports Survey Integration Project.
  • June 2004 - Robin Wilson reported to DEH and AMIT on a project to evaluate the size, condition and location of ports survey collections and data.
  • September 2004 - DEH funds AMIT (c/o The Australian Museum) for the Ports Survey Integration Project.
  • October 2004 - Scott Cooper, Felicity McEnnulty, Ely Wallis, Robin Wilson meet and agree on content of xml schema for reporting OZCAM data to NIMPIS.
  • December 2004 - Phase 1 milestone accepted.
  • December 2004 - Portland survey collections and data received by Museum Victoria from Marine and Freshwater Resources Institute, Queenscliff.
  • December 2004 - material from northern Tasmanian ports from CSIRO Marine, Hobart to QVM, Launceston.
  • December 2004-January 2005 - 548 barnacle samples sent from CSIRO Marine, Hobart to AM, SAM, QM, WAM.
