HONOURS STUDENTS

Katie Smith

Katie Smith

Katie completed her honours year in May 2006. She was co-supervised by Josh Van Buskirk in the Zoology Department, University of Melbourne. Katie investigated cryptic speciation in two species of agamid lizards from the tropical savannahs of northern Australia: Diporiphora magna & Diporiphora bilineata. She used field based ecological and morphological data combined with mtDNA sequence data to show that these species are in fact seven clades of genetically divergent but ecomorphologically similar species.

She will be starting a PhD with Jane Melville on speciation, evolutionary ecology and population genetics of Victorian frogs in January 2007.
