The Malacological Society of Australasia

Conferences

Symposia and other meetings are organised by the Society from time to time, and our branches and affiliates organise Shell Shows.

In 1995 the Society decided to test the support for regular malacological conferences within Australia by offering to arrange two sessions on malacology at the annual conference of AMSA (Australian Marine Sciences Association). These two sessions proved so successful, (with more papers than we could use), that we decided that the scientific community of the region would support regular mollusc conferences.

To this end, the Council decided to support three-yearly conferences. From 1997 a regional malacological meeting will be held regularly every three years.

The basic goals of these conferences are:

  1. To raise the profile of malacology in the region.
  2. To allow a forum for malacologists from Australian, New Zealand, the Pacific and Asia, to get together to discuss current research, issues, problems, proposals and joint interests.
  3. To encourage an exchange of information and increase awareness of malacology throughout Australia and Asia.
