Euphrosinidae
Euphrosinids seem to be most commonly distributed in cold shelf to abyssal habitats and polar seas. They lead a cryptic life in sandy, shelly or silty-muddy sediments and most are considered to move faster than amphinomids and are all thought to be carnivorous.
Five genera and over 50 species of Euphrosinidae are recognised world-wide. A single genus, Euphrosine, and about 7 species are known from Australian waters.
Palmyreuphrosine is only tenuously placed in the Euphrosinidae family by some authors due to the fact it seems to combine characters of the euphrosinids with those of the palmyrids. Until further work is done it seems best to follow Fauchald (1977) and leave it in the Euphrosinidae.
