Maldanidae
Maldanids are widespread in soft sediments in most marine habitats. They are perhaps most common and diverse in shelf depths. Most maldanids are apparently non-selective subsurface deposit feeders, although filter feeding has been described in a species of Praxillura. Further ecological studies of maldanids are listed in Fauchald & Jumars (1979) and Rouse (2000). The Maldanidae comprises over 30 genera and 200 species (Fauchald 1977; Light 1991) although there is no recent systematic overview of the family. Thirteen species in 8 genera have been recorded from Australian waters (Rouse 2000).
