Protodrilidae
Protodrilids are small to minute interstitial polychaetes. They inhabit coarse sediments in detritus-poor intertidal or subtidal. Most species feed on the bacterial films. The Protodrilidae comprises two genera, Protodrilus and the monotypic Parenterodrilus. Globally there are 30 known species. Five described species are known from New Zealand, and there are unpublished reports of protodrilids from Queensland, Australia (R. Kristensen personal communication, cited in Paxton 2000).
