Marine Field Guides

Introduction

Museum Victoria has commenced publication of a series of identification handbooks to the marine fauna of southeastern Australia. Authors and contributing photographers include many staff and Honorary Associates of Museum Victoria. This publication project is being supported by a number of sponsors and wih the active co-operation of many highly skilled and committed amateur naturalists, divers and photographers, including members of ReefWatch Victoria and the Marine Research Group of the Field Naturalists Club of Victoria.

The first three titles of the planned series of identification handbooks to the marine fauna of southeastern Australia were published in late 2007. The Barnacles guide was published in 2009, Sponges in 2013 and Shrimps and Shrimps, prawns and lobsters in 2015
The sixth title, Nudibranchs and related molluscs by Robert Burn, will be published in 2015. We have had a wide readership in mind for these field guides, including secondary school students as well as those in higher education, as well as amateur naturalists, beachcombers, divers and others with an interest in life in the sea.
