Aberrantidae
Aberrantids have only been recorded from soft sediments at depths of 30-300 m. There have been no studies of the biology of any members of the family.
The family Aberrantidae was erected by Wolf (1987). Only two species are currently described, both from the North Atlantic: Aberranta enigmatica Hartman, 1965 (from the Northwest Atlantic) and A. palpata Wolf, 1987 (from the Gulf of Mexico). Two more species are being described by Mackie, Pleijel and Rouse (in prep; cited in Fauchald & Rouse 1997: 89). No aberrantids are known from Australia.
