Identification guide
Currently there are no published records of Parergodrilidae from Australia. Both known genera are described below.
Parergodrilus Reisinger, 1925
Type species Parergodrilus heideri Reisinger, 1925
Description One anterior and no posterior achaetigerous segments, eight or nine chaetigers present. Chaetae all smooth rods, except copulatory hooks in males. Terrestrial living in decomposing terrestrial plant debris. [After Fauchald, 1977; need fig]
Comments Parergodrilus contains a single species, P. heideri, which is found in leaf litter throughout Europe.
Stygocapitella Knöllner, 1934
Type species Stygocapitella subterranea Knöllner, 1934
Description Two anterior and two posterior achaetigerous segments, ten or 11 chaetigers present. Chaetae include smooth, short bilimbate chaetae with long whiplike tips and short furcate chaetae with two accessory teeth in the crotch. [After Fauchald, 1977; need fig]
Comments Stygocapitella contains a single species, S. subterranea, which has been reported from widespread locations; it is found in caves and on beaches
